Hacienda El Castillo’s cacao is Don Homero – Cerecita: a 100% Ecuadorian fine-aroma variety (Trinitario type) developed in the 1960s by agronomist Homero Castro. Considered one of the most productive and resilient in the world, highly tolerant to frosty pod rot and witches’ broom disease, it provides higher cocoa mass yield for chocolatiers and an exceptional flavor profile with a high concentration of antioxidants.
It grows in the dry and privileged Cerecita Valley, where the marine air and advanced irrigation systems naturally limit cacao diseases and enhance its purity.
Surrounded by mango, papaya, banana, citrus trees, and a protected forest reserve, our cacao develops fruity notes and a unique personality that sets it apart in the world of fine chocolate.
